The Yellow House

A single room is available August 9, 2024 short-term, until Sept.1st. You are welcome to ask if a room has opened up mid-semester and to inquire about stays beginning January 2025 for spring term and after.

I ask prospective guests to let me know...
where they will arrive from, as well as the start and end dates of their projected stay. We can discuss how best to assure the health and wellbeing of guests and myself as host. All current guests are fully vaccinated, and boosted, as am I.

The following tells you more about my home. I look forward to your inquiry.

Clean, pleasant and well-appointed short- and long-term accommodations are available at The Yellow House, North Cambridge, convenient to Porter Square and Davis Square. Shared bath. Shared kitchen. Each bedroom has a cube refrigerator and each guest has a designated food storage box in the kitchen. Weekly/monthly rates are given below.

No smoking or vaping is permitted / no alcohol is permitted / no guests of guests are allowed except by request in advance / no electric scooters or bikes are to be stored on the property. High-speed, password-protected Internet access is provided at no charge.

Single rooms are $70/night for one to three nights ($70, $140, $210), $60/night for four or five nights ($240, $300), $55/night for six or seven nights ($330, $385), $385/week for stays up to two months. Rent for one month is $1540, plus daily or weekly rate thereafter up to two months.

Rates for longer stays depend on the size of the room. For two or three calendar months during the academic year rents are $1370-1440 and for four or more calendar months rents are $1044-1111.

Extra person: $20/night adult or $10/night child, weekly rate available. Double occupancy $90/night, lower rate for longer stays.

The accommodations are self-catered: no food is provided. Coffee, tea and lemonade are available, self-service.

=> A non-refundable deposit of $210 is required to hold a room.
=> Long-term guests will be asked to sign a tenancy-at-will agreement regarding terms of payment and responsibilities for recycling, room cleaning and shared housekeeping.
=> A reference is required in advance from staff or faculty at MIT or other host institution: please provide the name, telephone and email of the person whom I may contact directly for a reference for you.

When inquiring by email, please put ‘YH’ (for Yellow House) at the start of the message subject followed by the desired dates. Thank you!

THE YELLOW HOUSE

Further details:

The house offers fully furnished rooms in North Cambridge. It is a shingle-style Victorian era single-family home, built in 1891. After exterior renovation in 2003, it received a 2004 Cambridge Historical Commission Preservation Award. Interior renovations done in 2013 included installation of air conditioning / heat pump units in each bedroom, individually controlled. The kitchen was fully remodeled in 2015.

The location is close to Davis and Porter Square Red Line T stops (10-15 min.), near the #83 and #77 bus lines and walkable to Harvard (25 min.). Travel from the house to MIT takes about half an hour. Secure bike racks are available for guest use, on the property out of sight of the street.

Former guests have written…

= Because, more than housing, you provide hosting that made every return home a good part of my day. Thanks for listening, for being there, for the treats and so many other small things that really made my stay a pleasure.

= Thank you for being such an incredible host! It’s hard to believe I have been working and living here for nearly a year now. Thanks to your hospitality and warmth (and treats), the initial transition wasn’t too bad and I continue to greatly enjoy my stay here!
