Hexapod House

Looking for new long-term resident for 1 year or more.

Hexapod is an intentional community/co-op in the Central Square neighborhood of Cambridge, MA, a 7-10 minute walk to the Central Square T stop and MIT. We enjoy sharing meals, playing games...
together, and building community through hosting events.

One second-floor bedroom (14’ x 9.5’) will be available by July 1st, and another second-floor bedroom (14’ x 14’) will be available September 1! Each bedroom features: two windows; an HVAC mini-split unit for heating and cooling; improved insulation and drywall plus a sound-tested door for soundproofing, and a closet.

Rent for the smaller July 1 bedroom is $975-$1,125 on a sliding scale, self-determined based on financial ability, and for the larger September 1 bedroom is $1,100-$1,250. Additional house expenses are $410 per month per person (estimated to increase to $425 starting in September), which covers the shared groceries, utilities and shared house expenses (e.g. soap, toilet paper, other consumables, appliances). First and last month’s rent and first month’s house payment is required at the time of lease signing.

We have regular house meetings, a shared chore system, and a shared vegetarian food system, although housemates may individually purchase meat or other food items. Every housemate cooks one meal per month for the house. We have ~3 house events per week, including house meals, a weekly movie night, and a twice-monthly house meeting, and we’re looking for new community members who have the interest and availability to join us for most of these events. Due to the needs of current residents, we are unable to house cats or dogs at this time.

We have two main common spaces on the first floor, including ample kitchen space across two kitchens; our six bedrooms are distributed across the second and third floors. With six bathrooms (2 private full on the third floor, 2 shared full on the second floor, 2 shared half on the first floor), the house has a luxurious bathroom-to-resident ratio! The house was renovated in 2010 and has built-in heat and air conditioning, two dishwashers, and two sets of in-unit laundry machines. Bedroom walls and doors have extensive soundproofing. We also have ample bike storage in an enclosed back porch, driveway parking, and a large backyard that has hosted a container garden and potlucks.

For more about the community, photos of the house and the available room, and to apply, check out our website by searching "Hexapod Weebly" and visit our openings page.
